Good news story following a late shift

On Saturday 17th October officers were carrying out mobile patrols in the area when they saw a blue Toyota CHR parked in an alleyway to the rear of a residential property. The defendant was the sole occupant of the vehicle. An officer spoke to the defendant, who exited the vehicle. The officer observed a large amount of cash and a significant quantity of cigarettes.

The defendant was detained under Section 1 PACE 1984 and searched. During the search, a large amount of cash, approximately £5,000-£6,000, was located, along with a very large quantity of cigarettes and tobacco within the vehicle, including items stored in cardboard boxes, black bin bags and suitcases.

Checks carried out on police systems established that the defendant had previously been arrested by HMRC for similar offences.

Items found in the vehicle were seized and exhibited by an officer. The defendant was arrested for fraudulent evasion of duty prohibition or provision and possession of criminal property, before being conveyed to a police station for processing.
